Fans are already missing the beloved Tasmanian-set comedy “Rosehaven”. With its first series airing back in 2016 and its final one released in 2021, there are no new episodes anymore. Created by, written, and starring Celia Pacquola and Luke McGregor, fans of the show have enjoyed watching their characters Daniel and Emma grow while they work at McCallum Real Estate.

One of the things that really bring out the charm of the program is obviously the town of Rosehaven itself! The on-location shooting in Tasmania brings out everything the creators know and love about the area. After watching the series you might have a few questions about its making. In particular: “Where is “Rosehaven” filmed?’” That’s what we’ll discuss ahead!

Is Rosehaven a real town?

Fans of the show might want to believe that the town of Rosehaven is real. After all, the characters and setting feel so genuine! But sadly, we’re not going to meet any of the famous residents anytime soon. So if you were wondering to yourself “Where is “Rosehaven” filmed?” it’s actually located in a few areas in the Tasmanian State, mostly in Geeveston, in the Huon Valley.

Geeveston background

So what’s the deal with Geeveston, you might ask? Well, aussietowns.au has some great information on the formation of the town. “Historically Geeveston was a timber town. It was economically dependent on the local timber industry. For nearly 100 years the southern forests fed sawmills and an APM pulp mill and employed, directly and indirectly, nearly 400 people from the town. Then the APM Pulp Mill closed down in 1982. The town was devastated and decimated. The southern forests were protected and the timber town had no future. But with remarkable tenacity, and driven by the local postmaster, Laurie Dillon, they started to think laterally. Today it is a town driven by tourism”.

One of Geeveston’s most famous sights is its gigantic stump of a Swamp Gum that you have to see to believe. They only shot the main street of the fictional town of Rosehaven here. We’ll detail other locations later on.

The Tahune Airwalk

One thing that you wouldn’t have seen on the show that many people flock to Geeveston for is the Tahune Airwalk. From their website: “The famous Tahune AirWalk is an elevated walkway 30 meters above the forest floor, with the final cantilever section sitting at a height of 50 meters above the Huon River, with spectacular views to the confluence of the Huon and Picton and beyond to the peaks of the World Heritage Area”.

This is obviously a must-see for anybody coming down to do a Rosehaven tour! It can give you an opportunity to see the Huon Valley in a whole different way.

Fans of the show will obviously be familiar with McCallum Real Estate, one of the more frequently used interiors on the show. When we were answering the question: ‘where is “Rosehaven” filmed?’ we found out that the real filming location was in Geeveston, in the Huon Valley. It would make you wonder next if McCallum Real Estate is located in the same town! Well, we’re to tell you that they used a different location in Tasmania, this time they used a location in New Norfolk.

We’ve got some details from discovertasmania.com.au on New Norfolk, another historic city just like Geeveston. “The town is the third oldest settlement in Tasmania, established by evacuees relocated from Norfolk Island after the island prison was abandoned in 1807. Its historic past is evident in the many early buildings found in the town including one of Australia’s oldest pubs and Australia’s oldest Anglican church, St Matthews. It also has one of Australia’s few traditional village squares”.

The show’s creators wanted the best of the best as far as filming locations in Tasmania. Therefore, it’s no wonder they chose to use several different towns!

The last location that we’re going to visit on this tour of the town of Rosehaven is the pub that the main characters and townsfolk frequent. So if you were watching any of the pub scenes and wondering to yourself ‘Where is “Rosehaven” filmed?’ we’ve got your answer. This time, they took a trip to the town of Longley and shot at the Longley International Hotel.

Fans of the show have made the pilgrimage there and didn’t regret it, like this one from a Trip Advisor review: “As fans of ‘rosehaven’ we had to drop in here. We weren’t prepared for the amazing meal we had. I had scallops and my hubby had schnitzel. Both were AMAZING. Do yourself a favor and stop here for a meal. Promise you won’t regret it! Shout out to the cool kitchen staff/server, super friendly chick.”

The show’s creators love to shoot at these locations and the people who live in these places welcomed them with open arms. The surge in tourism is important to bring fans of the show in and help these small-town economies.

The show is now over after five seasons and according to an article by New Norfolk News the creators were grateful for everything. “Thank you to everyone who helped us get here, and a huge thank you to Tasmania for being such an awesome state to film in – from the amazing crew and actors we’ve found here, to the beautiful locations and local cuisine we get to eat on the weekends – we wouldn’t want to film anywhere else.”
