If you’ve ever watched the show and asked, “Where was ‘SeaChange’ filmed?”, we’ll answer that question ahead.
“SeaChange” was a beloved Australian TV show that ran for three series from 1998 to 2000, followed by a fourth reboot series that was released in 2019. It stars Sigrid Thornton as Laura Gibson, a successful city lawyer who decides her life needs a big change after she finds out her husband has had an affair with her sister and is being arrested for fraud. The “sea change” she lands on is to move to the quaint, secluded coastal town of Pearl Bay along with her two kids, Rupert and Miranda, and become the town’s magistrate.
Despite initially pining for their old home in the city, viewers watch Laura, Rupert, and Miranda grow fond of the town and its unique inhabitants as the new setting gives the family an opportunity to bond and grow closer to one another.
Plus, if you’re in search of “SeaChange”-inspired locations for your next film shoot, photo shoot, or other creative project, you’re in luck. Is Pearl Bay in “SeaChange” a real place?

When you first watched “SeaChange” and saw the idyllic beauty of Pearl Bay, you may have asked yourself, “Where was ‘SeaChange’ filmed?”
More importantly, is the small seaside town of Pearl Bay even a real place?
The disappointing answer is no, the charming town of Pearl Bay is not a real place that you can visit. You can, however, visit the locations where they filmed the original series. Barwon Heads and St Leonards are both located on Victoria’s picturesque Bellarine Peninsula on Australia’s southern coast.
Not only is it beautiful there, but there’s lots to do in the Geelong and Bellarine region. Try sightseeing to see historic architecture and streetscapes, visiting local craft breweries and wineries, viewing wildlife in Port Phillip Bay, staying at cute B&Bs, and surfing and swimming at the region’s many bay and ocean beaches. This hidden gem is located just 100 km southwest of Melbourne, so it’s a fairly easy trip to get there from the nearest major city center.

Where did they film “SeaChange: Paradise Reclaimed” (2019)?

Fans of “SeaChange” were excited to learn that the show was getting a fourth season. It was released in 2019 and set twenty years after the original. But fans were surprised that the reboot would be in Brunswick Heads, a coastal town near Byron Bay in New South Wales.
According to Now to Love, “When the highly anticipated SeaChange reboot first debuted on our screens this week, the first thing eagle-eyed viewers noticed is that the fictional town of Pearl Bay has undergone a bit of a revamp.”
Some fans of the show were sad that the show wouldn’t feature the locations they loved and remembered. The show’s creators announced that Brunswick Heads was going to be the location of the first three seasons but didn’t work out. The show’s producer, Deb Cox, explained their decision to The Sydney Morning Herald. “When we saw it, we all said this is Pearl Bay, this has gotta be Pearl Bay, and then of course we went back and did the numbers. There wasn’t the crew up here, there wasn’t the mobility, it was just all too hard.”
Cox adds that filming the fourth series “is like this fantasy, but it’s always where it was meant to be. So in that transition you now see on camera, the beach is here, and the tropical style is slightly different. It’s amazing how quickly you adapt. It looks right now, like it was meant to look in my imagination.”
Turns out that the new location for “Paradise Reclaimed” is more in line with the creators’ original plans. So you might even call it an improvement on the old location!
