Is Shorehaven in “Surviving Summer” a real town?

When Summer is kicked out of her American boarding school, her career-minded mother decides to send her to live with a friend in Shorehaven, along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. This famous Australian stretch of road is famous around the globe. It boasts over 200 km of beautiful beaches and vistas from Torquay to the South Australian border. One of the most phenomenal sights to see along the Great Ocean Road is the 12 Apostles – a cluster of massive limestone rocks jutting out from the water.
Despite Great Ocean Road being a very real place, you won’t find the town of Shoreditch on a map. According to issuu.com, the show’s creators made the town, drawing inspiration from nearby towns like Wye River and Anglesea. They also note that the community on Great Ocean Road was grateful to receive the production. They welcomed them eagerly to show off their beautiful beaches. Knowing that we can dive a little deeper into the question: where was “Surviving Summer” filmed?

Where is the beach from “Surviving Summer”?

Surfing plays an integral role in the series, with Summer quickly joining a group of surfers after she moves to Shorehaven. One of the surfers, Ari, becomes important to her in many ways. In fact, she often serves as a foil to her rebellious nature. This means that they filmed many scenes in the show at beautiful beaches. And we experience the drama and beauty of surfing along with the characters on screen.
It’s easy to get lost in these surfing scenes and ask yourself: where was “Surviving Summer” filmed?
Great Ocean Road is home to many of Victoria’s most famous surf beaches. Therefore, the production of “Surviving Summer” had plenty of great options to choose from. According to ausfilm.au, the production was mainly shot on Bells Beach, Jan Juc Beach, and Anglesea’s Point Roadknight Beach. They go on to explain that the production made use of something called the Regional Location Assistance Fund, which helps productions set up in more difficult areas, like on sandy beaches.
Other notable “Surviving Summer” filming locations

Along with the beach scenes, there is plenty of drama and intrigue that unfolds throughout the series. We see plenty of homes and interiors sure to make you ask: where was “Surviving Summer” filmed?
According to IMDB, they filmed interior scenes in Melbourne, Victoria’s largest city. Other films and television series shot in Melbourne include 2013’s “The Great Gatsby”, the third season of the HBO drama “The Leftovers”, and the 1979 Aussie classic, “Mad Max”. It’s no wonder the production settled on Melbourne for scenes that weren’t on the beach. After all, it’s just a short distance from the Great Ocean Road.
Where did they film “Surviving Summer” season 2?

With season two of the internationally acclaimed series filmed and on the horizon, fans are desperate for any information about the continuing adventures of Summer and her friends. While there are no spoilers for story beats, filming went well. Film Link shares a quote from Joanna Werner, the series producer:
“We were so thrilled with the response around the world to the first season of Surviving Summer on Netflix and couldn’t be more excited to be commencing shoot on the second season. Our fabulous cast have just finished their intensive surf training camp and are ready to go, along with some exciting new cast members. We have a brilliant crew assembled on the Surf Coast and the sun is shining here in Anglesea – here’s to a great shoot!”
As for if the show returned to some of the same beaches from the first season, Surf Coast Times has your answer. They spoke to the show’s Surf Producer, Fran Derham, who indicated that the production was happy to recapture the magic at some of the same beaches. Fans can rest assured knowing they’ll be seeing the characters ride waves at Jan Juc, Point Roadknight, Fairhaven, and Anglesea.
They also indicate that they filmed at several homes in Anglesea, Torquay, and Jan Juc. This information however is private, because actual residents of the towns own the homes.
