Mallorie Dunn is an inspirational small business owner and a 2024 Space for Change recipient. We caught up with Mallorie to see how Space for Change and Peerspace helped bring a photo shoot and gallery presentation of her couture capsule collection for her sustainable and inclusive clothing company, SmartGlamour, to life.
As described by Mallorie, “this couture capsule was over a year’s time in the making. With a design inspiration of florals, and the dichotomies between hard and soft, transparent and opaque, and the social messaging of true inclusion – this couture capsule asked the viewers to ponder on who is allowed to participate in high end designer spaces + clothing.”
For her photoshoot, Mallorie was “inspired by fashion glamour photos of the mid 1900s – reimagining them for today. The Peerspace location we found and used was absolutely perfect to bring this to life. With incredible light, dramatic curtains, and photogenic arches – the result was exactly what I had imagined.” Mallorie Peerspaced a sunny Bushwick studio for this shoot, drawn to the “window light, the curtains, the archways, and the clean minimal furniture that [spoke] to mid century design.”
For her gallery presentation, Mallorie “needed a simple room to be a blank slate for the garments, models, photos, and placards. Being able to hang work on the walls, and present the collection in a way that felt like an art gallery was paramount – and our Peerspace location was exactly what we needed. It was centrally located in Manhattan and ADA compliant – also incredibly important for a truly inclusive event.” She booked this versatile event space for her presentation, noting that it was “warm, inviting, friendly, and kind – not exclusive or pretentious.”
