What is I Care A Lot? 

Released on Netflix in 2020, I Care A Lot revolves around Marla Grayson, a seemingly unassuming woman with a lust for power and a blunt bob that’s as sharp as her metaphorical claws. Marla makes her living by becoming a court-appointed guardian for seniors — and pocketing their assets for herself, once she has them safely locked inside a care home. 

But when Marla inadvertently scams a woman with ties to the Russian mafia, she catches the attention of mob boss Roman Lunyov, played by none other than Tyrion Lannister himself, Peter Dinklage. The ensuing cat and mouse game is anything but fair and square. It’s like watching a pair of sharks duke it out. 

I Care A Lot Filming Locations

FIlming for I Care A Lot mainly took place in near famous metros — London and Boston. According to IMBD, filming partly took place at Pinewood Studios just outside London. Productions like James Bond, The DaVinci Code, The Princess Bride, and many others were also shot at Pinewood Studios. 

According to the Massachusetts production coalition, the stateside production of I Care A Lot was based in Norwood Massachusetts. Although cities like Braintree, Millis, Rockport, Watertown, and Wayland also made the cut. Here are some of the “I Care A Lot” Filming locations you might recognize around Massachusetts! 

The care home 

In real life, the care home at the beginning of the film wasn’t a care home at all. It’s actually a conference center. The Babson executive conference center is located on the University of Babson’s picturesque campus. You can even rent out this “I Care A Lot” filming location for meetings and events on the University’s website. 

The courthouse

The courthouse at the beginning of the film is the historic Norfolk County Registry of Deeds. Rather than serving as the hub where hapless seniors lose their rights to Marla, the real building is home to thousands of important deeds and documents for Norfolk County. It’s been a part of the county government since 1793. According to The Cinemaholic, the crew filmed some scenes at the Norfolk County Superior Court, too. 

Marla’s house

Wondering where Marla’s home is located in real life? According to Screen It, Marla’s iconic blue home resides in Braintree, Massachusetts. Realtor.com reports that the historic home was built in 1860 and has 5 bedrooms and 3 ½ bathrooms. With approximately 3,200 square feet, the estimated value of the historic home is around $923,000. 

Unlike other “I Care A lot” filming locations on the list, this is a private residence. Please be respectful of the owner’s privacy if you want to visit it in person.

The Grayson Guardianship company

The headquarters for the Grayson Guardianship company is a real building at the Wellesley Office Park in Wellesley Massachusetts. Though hopefully, no one quite as devious as Marla works here in real life. According to Atlas of Wonders, the filmmakers also shot scenes in the office park for the fictional 3 WPQX TV station, which is just down the street from Marla’s HQ.

What about Roman’s private HQ? The towering skyscraper where the Russian mob boss works is located at the glass facade tower in the Seaport District of Boston. Thankfully, there are no mob bosses here in the real world. According to the Boston Globe, there are plans to transform this building into a research lab. 

Other I Care A Lot filming locations

Thanks to Atlas of Wonders and IMDB, we also know the spots for several miscellaneous filming locations throughout Massachusetts. The Cafe where Roman makes his first appearance was the Explorateur Cafe in downtown Boston. The cafe was on the ground floor for the historic Grand Lodge of Masons, which locals built in 1818. Unfortunately, however, the pastry shop appears to be permanently closed. 

The jewelry shop where Marla has the diamonds assessed has is a real jewelry shop called Stucchi Jewelers. Located in Natick Massachusetts, the shop is owned by a local jewelry craftsman who’s been in business at his current location for over 30 years.

The convenience store seen towards the latter half of the film is called the Medfield Auto Center. You can find it on Main Street in Medfield Massachusetts. Hopefully, if you decide to visit, it’ll be under better circumstances than Marla.
