Since the first film in the series was released in 1977, “Star Wars” has been one of the most popular franchises of all time, especially in recent years as new films have come out. For children and adults alike who are mega-fans of the epic space opera, read on for 13 awesome Star Wars party ideas.
1. Play some Star Wars party games

What kinds of Star Wars party games you end up playing will depend heavily on the age range of those in attendance. But to get you started, here are 20 fun Star Wars party games suitable for all ages. Examples of games you might want to have your guests play include Stormtrooper Nerf gun target practice, Pin the Bun on Princess Leia, and many more!
And if you plan on playing any of the more raucous and active party games, you may want to rent a large space where your guests will have room to move around. For example, this sunny dance studio in Toronto is a spacious, flexible venue that measures 2,500 square feet and can hold as many as 30 people at once.
2. Set up a Star Wars photo area with a backdrop

It’s easy to create a photo booth-type area at your party by hanging up a Star Wars backdrop. We especially love this amazing Death Star backdrop, but this Darth Vader backdrop is also awesome. You and your guests will love looking back at the photos you took at your party, especially if you end up using our next Star Wars party idea (list item #3)…
3. Have a Star Wars costume party

For this truly epic Star Wars party idea, make it clear on your party invitations that you expect guests to come in costume. Be sure to send them out well in advance so people have time to find their costumes. There are so many amazing characters you can dress up as for this type of party, whether you choose to go as a Stormtrooper, Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, or Han Solo!
You can buy a costume online or at your local costume shop. To start, check out these Star Wars costumes from Spirit Halloween. Or you can go the difficult yet extra rewarding route and make your own costume.
4. Hang a Star Wars piñata

For a birthday party, hang up a Darth Vader piñata or a BB-8 piñata and go nuts! Fill it with the candy of your choice. If it’s a party for grown-ups, you might want to go with a higher-quality candy such as individually wrapped Ghirardelli chocolates or some sort of fancy artisanal candy like See’s lollipops.
5. Serve tasty Princess Leia buns

There are lots of Star Wars-themed snacks you can serve to your guests. But we’re including this one in particular on our list of our favorite Star Wars party ideas because it’s genuinely hilarious. Buy or make cinnamon rolls and serve them to guests on a platter labeled “Princess Leia buns.” Take a look at this recipe for Princess Leia cinnamon buns and see if it’s something you feel up to baking. Otherwise, just buy some pre-made cinnamon buns at the grocery store!

6. Pick an incredible, futuristic venue for your Star Wars party

If you’ve got a higher budget, this Star Wars party idea is a great way to take your celebration to the next level. Find a super cool, modernist/futuristic space for rent in your area, such as this spaceship studio with downtown LA skyline views in Central Los Angeles. We can’t think of a space more fitting than this one for a Star Wars party. In fact, the studio was designed in 1975 by the producer of Star Wars!
In addition to the lovely and incredibly unique indoor space, there is also a huge rooftop deck and long promontory yard that renters can access. What a find this place is! It’s no wonder that one reviewer wrote: “Such a cool, unique space. It’s like a private oasis with breathtaking views! Jill was also super helpful and responsive if I had any questions. I highly recommend taking a ride on this spaceship.”
7. Choose your Star Wars party’s color scheme

There isn’t one set of colors that’s specifically unique to Star Wars, so you can get creative here. Whatever you choose, sticking to a cohesive color scheme can go a long way toward helping your party look professional and put-together. For some inspo, check out this blog post on the various color palettes used in all the Star Wars movies.
8. If you’re throwing a Star Wars party for your kid…

…ask for their input! Even if you have a really good sense of their likes and dislikes and of what they specifically enjoy about the Star Wars universe, you can make their celebration even more special and suited to them by asking them what they would like to include at their party and getting their feedback on what you have in mind. Which are their favorite characters? Are they more excited about the numerous species of unique aliens or about the way Jedis use the Force?
9. Send out Star Wars party invitations

Etsy has a massive variety of options when it comes to Star Wars party invitations, with more elevated invitations for adults and classic, simple invites that will appeal to kids. Many of these are customizable, and some are even high-tech and animated, so you can send them via smartphone rather than by snail mail.
10. Give out homemade lightsaber party favors

This is one of the cutest Star War party ideas we’ve seen: make your own homemade lightsabers to give out to guests as party favors. This guide to making them out of materials as simple as flashlights, plastic toothbrush holders, and a bit of paint is totally ingenious.

Jedis wear distinctive tan and brown robes, but luckily these are easy to copy at home using “a thrift store bed sheet” or “some inexpensive muslin fabric,” writes blogger My Mommy Style in her guide to making your own DIY Jedi robes. Kids will be excited to dress up like some of their favorite characters.
