Filled with lush greenery and providing a clear view of the outside world while protecting those inside, a greenhouse makes a creative and beautiful space for a wedding, while also being quite unexpected as wedding venues go. If you want your wedding to be a unique, memorable one with romantic vibes to spare, a greenhouse wedding is a wonderful option. If you have access to a heated greenhouse specifically, it’s also a practical choice for a winter wedding (you’ll be protected from the harsh weather outside) or for a wedding taking place on a cooler fall or spring day.
For inspiration, advice, and specific ideas regarding how to plan a greenhouse wedding, keep reading this article. We at Peerspace discuss choosing the right venue as well as wedding decor, bridalwear, and photography for a greenhouse wedding.
Finding the right greenhouse

Central to the greenhouse wedding is, of course, the greenhouse itself! Locating a suitable greenhouse to serve as a wedding venue might sound like a daunting challenge, but it’s actually quite easy with Peerspace at your fingertips. Peerspace is the internet’s most extensive marketplace for event venue rentals, and the site has plenty of greenhouses to choose from scattered all across the United States and even some in Canada, the United Kingdom, and other locales as well.
To find a greenhouse to rent by the hour as your wedding venue, head to the Peerspace homepage and input the kind of event you’re planning (a wedding, of course) as well as the location where you’re planning it. Then, narrow down those search results to only greenhouses by navigating to the “More Filters” section at the top of the page and entering “greenhouse” under “Keywords”. Turns out there are several dozen greenhouse wedding spaces available for rent via Peerspace!
Here are a couple of our favorites:
Historic Greenhouse Intimate Event Venue
This historic greenhouse venue is in Plymouth, Michigan (between Detroit and Ann Arbor, so very easy to travel to from many of the state’s population centers). It is “a working greenhouse, which adds to the authenticity and uniqueness as a venue”.
In addition to the greenhouse itself, there is also a century-old white barn that is equally picturesque and would make a wonderful backdrop for wedding photos. Interestingly, the cost to hold a wedding here is a flat rate of $1000, which is relatively affordable compared to many other wedding venues. This is a very popular venue and photoshoot location, so there are more than 30 positive reviews.
One such review commented, “Rachel was super helpful and responsive, and her space is gorgeous!! So much more variety than I expected on the grounds, and inside the greenhouse was beautiful.” It’s hard to go wrong throwing your greenhouse wedding here!

Urban Eclectic Greenhouse
Located in St. Louis, Missouri, this “gorgeous, funky greenhouse” is “an urban jewel box” and is “a great option for a colorful back drop no matter what season since it’s always filled with plants”. Your wedding photos taken here will have plenty of natural light to work with, as there are windows on two of the walls as well as the roof.
Although the greenhouse alone can accommodate up to 40 people (enough for a small-ish wedding), the outdoor attached concrete patio adds additional capacity and makes it a practical venue in addition to being a beautiful one. With your rental comes access to an indoor kitchenette as well as a restroom. You can also add chairs, tables, place settings, and more to your rental if needed.
To quote a review of the space, “The place was absolutely beautiful, Mike and Shelly accommodated my group of 40 and were very helpful. 10/10 would rent this venue again.”
Greenhouse wedding decor

As with outdoor weddings, you can’t go wrong with string/fairy lights as well as hanging strings of larger bulbs as a source of warm and twinkly lighting for your wedding. The glowing (not to mention flattering!) light they cast will make for a welcoming and romantic atmosphere, and they’re an especially smart choice if you expect your wedding festivities to last past sunset.
There are all kinds of color palettes you might want to use at a greenhouse wedding, so ultimately the choice is yours. However, you’ll probably be working with a great deal of green, since greenhouses are typically full of lush plant life all year round.
To complement this dominant color, we’d recommend the use of white and/or off-white as well as hints of metallics like gold or silver. The combination will look fairly traditional (especially if you use quite a lot of white) while still being visually interesting and unique. Here’s an example of how this color scheme looks in practice, from Bridal Guide.
You also can’t go wrong adding even more flowers to the whole affair. While the plants in the greenhouse may themselves be blooming, no one is going to complain that there are “too many flowers”. So if there are flowers you’d like to add that are not currently growing, add bouquets of flowers as your wedding centerpieces!

Greenhouse wedding bridalwear

Pastels or florals – or a combination of both – are a lovely option for your choice of bridalwear at a greenhouse wedding, as they complement the overall vibe very nicely. You can, of course, go with a traditional white wedding gown. However, we’d suggest not choosing a dress that’s too ornate because it might clash with the more casual and laid-back setting of a greenhouse wedding.
We’d also recommend having your bridesmaids wear more casual, comfortable dresses, for the same reason. Also, one textural feature that goes beautifully with lush greenery and blooming flowers, and fits well with more bohemian styling, is lace – so consider choosing a wedding dress with lots of lace!
