Most beach houses on Peerspace cost an average of $95-$190 per hour and offer some pretty amazing amenities like direct access to secluded beaches, covered patios, fireplaces, full-service bars, and more!
Ahead, we’ll share “Death in Paradise” shoot locations as well as share Peerspace rentals that can double for lovely Saint Marie. Let’s get started!
The real-life islands of Saint Marie

Saint Marie may be a fictional island. But that doesn’t mean the beautiful scenes in “Death In Paradise” are fictional, too! They film “Death In Paradise” in a spot with much less crime and drama than in the fictional island of Saint Marie.
Yet, this real-life island still has just as beautiful of a backdrop as in the show! So where is “Death In Paradise” filmed? The islands of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean! We’ll explore all the details ahead.
Before we dive into the specific locations where scenes of “Death In Paradise” were filmed, here are a few things to know about Guadeloupe.
Guadeloupe isn’t just one island. It actually comprises five islands between Dominica and Antigua. The two main islands in the area are Basse-Terre to the west and Grande-Terre to the east, according to Encyclopedia Britannica.
A lot of the filming for “Death In Paradise” is on the northwest coast of Basse-Terre Island in a commune called Deshaies. While about 10,000 people live in the fictitious Saint Marie, Deshaies is home to about 4,000 people.
And if you were wondering about all the french accents you hear in the show — well that’s because Guadeloupe is a French overseas territory!
Catherine’s Bar

If you’re able to visit Guadeloupe, take a stop at Catherine’s Bar! But you won’t find it by searching that name — try Le Madras beachside restaurant instead! You can sit out on the Le Madras beach deck and recreate all your favorite “Death In Paradise” moments while soaking in the sun and enjoying some great food!
But Le Madras isn’t the only “Catherine’s Bar”! In the first few seasons of “Death In Paradise,” the production filmed Catherine’s Bar at La Kaz (only a 3-minute walk from Le Madras). The filming location was moved due to the traffic congestion that was being caused by filming. However, it’s still worth a visit if you are in the area!
The inspector’s shack

Unfortunately, The Inspector’s Shack doesn’t exist in real life — but that doesn’t mean you can’t recreate it yourself! The production team builds the shack at the start of each season of “Death In Paradise”. They then remove it in the winters, so the rising tide doesn’t damage it.
While making your own inspector’s shack from scratch sounds like quite the undertaking — you can get your own head start by using a Peerspace venue to recreate the inspector shack vibes! We will explore that in detail later. For now, we’ll share a few more “Death in Paradise” filming locations.
Honoré police station

Looking for the Honoré police station? Well, you might have walked right past it in Deshaies and never known! That’s because the police station isn’t a police station at all. In fact, it’s the priest’s office right next to the Catholic Church of Saint Peters and Paul in Deshaies!
According to the CatholicTravelGuide, the priest actually vacates his office when the series is filming. No word as to where this poor priest has to relocate to though when his office becomes a cop shop!
The scene of the detective’s demise
If you haven’t seen the first episode of season 3, stop reading this section and move along— we’re about to discuss a spoiler! If you are still reading and have made it past the first episode of season 3, you may be wondering where that beautiful scenery where Detective Richard Poole was killed came from! The beautiful green lush pictured in this scene is actually the botanical gardens in Deshaies!
And this botanical garden isn’t just famous because it’s in “Death In Paradise” either! According to the botanical garden’s website, it used to be the property of Coluche, a famous French actor.
If you visit Guadeloupe, the botanical gardens are definitely worth a visit! They feature a restaurant with a magnificent view of a waterfall and the Caribbean sea, as well as 7 hectares of plants, trees, and wildlife to explore!
Saint Marie Zoo

If you’ve made it to series eight in “Death In Paradise,” you’ll probably recognize the “Zoo de Guadeloupe au Parc des Mamelles”. It’s the Saint Marie Zoo where (spoiler alert ahead!) the zoo owner is killed in episode two.
In real life, you won’t run into a nest of vipers during your visit — but you will be able to see some pretty beautiful animals! The zoo is home to 85 animal species from around the Caribbean and Guyana, according to their website.
