The 2018 post-apocalyptic horror movie “A Quiet Place” was a huge hit among audiences. Those who were lucky enough to see it in the theater have a unique memory of a near-silent and very tense viewing experience. The movie was directed by and starred John Krasinski, who, along with his real-life spouse Emily Blunt, navigates their fictional family through a terrifying world that is overrun by blind monsters with exceptional hearing.

Besides the bone-chilling monsters, the movie also is memorable for the serene and isolated area where the Abbott family lives. You probably saw the movie and the well-equipped farmhouse and wondered: where was “A Quiet Place” filmed? Let’s get to it!

To kick things off, we’re going to start off at the beginning of the movie with a scene that really sets the tone for things to come. You probably remember the Abbott family’s youngest son Beau, who meets his untimely demise at the hands of a Death Angel on an old steel bridge. The fall foliage and imposing rusted bridge are sure to beg the question: where was “A Quiet Place” filmed?

This can be found in the town of New Paltz, New York, according to Atlas of Wonders. Apparently it is called the Springtown Truss Bridge and is part of The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, which spans 15 miles along old railroad tracks. The old bridge with the rusty frame is perfect for the post-apocalyptic vibe that “A Quiet Place” was trying to create.

One location that we spend the most time with in the movie is the isolated farmhouse that the Abbott family has decked out to warn them of Death Angels and make as little sound as possible. Like the rest of the movie, they also filmed this in New York State, this time in the town of Pawling, according to LokaGraph.

The older-looking New England house may not look like it would fetch much of a price in the movie, but apparently the house is valued over one million dollars and has a whopping total of nine bedrooms!

John Krasinski and the rest of the production were looking for authenticity and they were in luck when they stumbled upon the house in Pawling. He told CBS This Morning: “The family that you see in the movie — that’s where they used to live, but they no longer can because of the sounds of the house, and also a tree has fallen on it. And so they all decide to live in this barn, ’cause it has a dirt floor and they’re able to remain quiet.”

You may remember some scenes in the movie where the Abbott family has to go into a town to get some supplies. The downtown street looks convincingly abandoned and quite eerie, which adds to the tense atmosphere as they’re keeping away from the horrifying and lethal Death Angels.

According to Atlas of Wonders, this town is Little Falls, New York and the town’s Main Street is the one you see in the movie. The actual town has a few more people in it than the movie and looks like any other New England town on any other given day. There are lots of accessible locations like this to visit for yourself if you’ve ever asked the question: where was “A Quiet Place” filmed?

They did not film the supermarket that we see the characters visit in Little Falls. The production used one in the town of Beacon, New York called the Beacon Natural Market, according to Atlas of Wonders. The supermarket was built in 2005 but was effectively transformed into the dilapidated and abandoned place you saw in the movie.

The last location we’re going to cover is one that is a little more out of the way than the others. If you saw the movie, then you’ll remember that the Abbott family eventually abandons their farmhouse. They then make shelter next to a waterfall in order to conceal any noises they might make.

Atlas of Wonders says that you can find this waterfall at Buttermilk Falls State Park, outside of the town of Little Falls. The expansive state park has plenty of beautiful trails to explore and even campground accommodations. So if you want, you can spend an evening near where the Abbotts were in the movie, without having to fear for your life!

There are so many amazing locations to explore from both the first “A Quiet Place” and its sequel. And all of these are sure to inspire you if you’ve ever wondered: where was “A Quiet Place” filmed?
