The plot

Before we start talking about “Manifest” filming locations, we need to quickly brush up on what it’s all about. In “Manifest,” commercial Flight 828 disappears into thin air on the way to New York City from Jamaica. It’s diverted to a smaller airport in the Hudson Valley, and poof! It vanishes.

The plane, its passengers, and its crew return from the ether five and a half years after the mysterious incident. People presumed they were dead this whole time, so their reappearance is as much of a surprise to the authorities as it is to their friends and family members.

The premise of the show is to figure out what, in fact, happened to these passengers, as they themselves want to know where those missing years went and why they, of all the people flying at the same time, disappeared.

By the way, a manifest is the list of passengers on an aircraft or ship – hence the title of the show. However, the title might have something to do with the manifestation of supernatural beings or a divine entity of some sort – you’ll have to watch to decide the secret meaning for yourself.

Have you ever noticed that setting can play a huge role in certain productions – almost like the place is a character unto itself? That’s definitely the case in “Manifest.” It’s why we’re so curious about its filming locations, after all!

Once the passengers head home to New York, we follow the story throughout the City. “Manifest” is one of few television productions set in the Big Apple that is actually (mostly) filmed there. In fact, superfans have traveled to various areas of New York to try to catch a glimpse of their favorite show during filming.

Some of the areas of New York where they film the show includes Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and especially Queens.

To get super specific, the exterior of Ben and Grace Stone’s fictional house is located at 81-14 218th Street in the Hollis Hills neighborhood of Queens. They filmed some season 2 outdoor scenes in Forest Park, the borough of Queens’ third largest park. They filmed the bulk of season 3 in Astoria, NYC, another neighborhood in Queens.

Stay tuned to find out where they filmed season 4 since it’s very much a secret. However, we can say that it was in New York.

Airport scenes

Airport scenes logically come into play in this series, seeing as how it is about the fate of a commercial plane and its passengers. When Flight 828 was diverted away from JFK, it went toward the Hudson Valley’s Stewart Airport. In fact, they actually filmed parts of the show there as well.

A second airport where “Manifest” was filmed is Long Island’s Republic Airport. But Jet Flite International is the real-life site of most “Manifest” airport moments. Located in Farmingdale, New York, the airport serves private chartered jets only.

You’re unlikely to see one of your favorite “Manifest” stars stepping into the series’ sound stage, but it’s worth noting that Silvercup Studios is where all the audio magic happens.

It’s also where sound editors worked on New York all-stars “Sex and the City” and “30 Rock”.
