Port Devine is a beautiful town, and by its own right, one of the stars of the series. The seaside views and distinctive lighthouse are a few of the things that will make you ask: where is “Hope Street” filmed?

You may also be wondering if the town is a real place. According to the Newsletter, it is a fictional creation from the creators of the show. But don’t fret, they also mention that all of the sights from the show are in one place, Donaghadee, Co. Down.

They include a quote from executive producer of the series, Paul Marquess, who had this to say about going home to film. “Set on Northern Ireland’s stunning coastline, the series is a celebration of local writing, acting and production talent.”

According to IMDB, Donaghadee was also the filming location for the 2005 Tim Robbins movie “The Secret Life of Words.”

The series is part of an effort to bring Northern Ireland to the screen and showcase the talented people who live there. Paul Marquess also told the Belfast Telegraph about the intentions behind making it. “Our ambition is simple, to produce a long-running, returning drama series set in, and all about, Northern Ireland,”

They also include a quote that explains the effort to make something fresh and unique. “From the outset, we were determined that the series shouldn’t be about the Troubles or serial killers, but should capture the warmth, good humour and resilience of people from Northern Ireland.”

As we previously mentioned, all of the filming locations from “Hope Street” are in Donaghadee. The old harbor is frequently on display and represents the seafaring history of Port Devine. Seeing the lighthouse or meeting the fisherman residents may make you ask: where is “Hope Street” filmed?

Discover Northern Ireland shares that the historic harbor was constructed in the 1820s by designer John Rennie. Apparently, on a clear day you can look across the water and see Scotland. Peering across the water is the iconic lighthouse from the series. It was built in 1836 and was the first electric lighthouse in Ireland. Unfortunately, visitors cannot go inside the lighthouse.

Another distinguishing feature of the town is its Motte, a fortified structure atop a hill seen from many parts of the town. Visit Donaghadee reports that locals call it “The Moat,” and the Anglo-Normans constructed it back in the 12th century.

Also in The Moat is The Gunpowder Store, which is home to the only accessible Camera Obscura on the island of Ireland. For those unfamiliar, the camera obscura is a device that can project an image onto a piece of paper or other flat surface. My Modern Met reports that Leonardo DaVinci invented the device, which was a revolutionary invention for its time.

Season one of the series left off on a cliffhanger that has left fans waiting for the upcoming second season. We’re hoping that there will be answers to our questions about Finn O’Hare’s fate. Maybe we’ll also see plenty of new Donaghadee locations to make us ask: where is “Hope Street” filmed?

Irish News reports that as recently as May, the production was filming around Donaghadee along with missing person posters related to an upcoming plotline.

Finn O’Hare’s actor, Ciaran McMenamin, had this to say: “I couldn’t be happier to be back home in Northern Ireland for the shoot this summer. The new scripts are brilliant, and sure, where would you rather be?”
