Was “The Larkins” Filmed On Location In Kent?

Also known as “The Garden of England,” Kent is the picturesque countryside of southern England. Much of the Larkin family’s story and personalities have Kent in mind, so it would make sense to film here. Still, movies and television shows aren’t typically filmed on location, so where was “The Larkins” filmed?
In the case of “The Larkins,” Radio Times reports that they do film the show in Kent, where the story is set. They share a quote from executive producer Sophie Clarke-Jervoise who said: “We wanted it to be in Kent because the novels are set in Kent. We wanted these lovely rolling hills, farms in the background, it’s just gorgeous, we’ve been so lucky.”
She goes on to explain that the production did consider other parts of the country but at the end of the day, kept returning to Kent.
Where did they film the Larkin family farm?

One of the most iconic locations in both adaptations of “The Darling Buds of May” is the Larkin’s farm. Both series have inspired many to fall in love with their respective farm homes. It also begs the question: where was “The Larkins” filmed?
In the case of the original early 1990s series, HITC reports that the setting was Buss Farms in Ashford. It has since changed its name to the Darling Buds Farm, embracing its history as the filming location for the show. According to House Beautiful, the home went up for sale in 2018 and reportedly sold for over 3 million.
As for the latest adaptation, HITC reports that the setting is Romshed Farm, just outside the village of Underriver. According to the farm’s website, they trace their history all the way back to Saxon times. It aims to use nature-friendly farming techniques and promote biodiversity. The farm’s goal is regeneration of lost wildflower-rich meadows while also raising cattle and sheep.
Where did they film the pub in “The Larkins”?

You may remember Pa Larkin’s favorite pub, “The Hare and the Hound,” over the course of the series and the Christmas special. The charming and classic English pub is going to make you want a pint and ask: where was “The Larkins” filmed?
Find That Location reports that the real pub is “The Swan” and is in West Peckham. Their website states that the pub was originally an inn built in 1532. It was eventually named “The Swan” in the mid-19th century. Parts of the building date back to its original construction.
Other filming locations in West Peckham include the St. Dunstan Church and its shop.
Other notable filming locations for “The Larkins”

The Larkin family certainly gets around Kent, so we still have a few locations to share with you today.
According to The Cinemaholic, scenes of the family’s beach vacation were shot at Viking Bay in Broadstairs. IMDB reports that other projects produced in Broadstairs include the 2021 Benedict Cumberbatch film “ The Electrical Life of Louis Wain,” as well as the Ricky Gervais comedy-drama “Derek.”
Lastly, for those who want to go strawberry picking after watching “The Larkins,” Find That Location reports that you can do it at the same farm as the show, Stonepitts.
According to Willow and Hatch, the show has returned to Kent to film the second series, which sees a young new Reverend arrive in their village. Along with his arrival, the Jerebohm family moves to town and quickly conflict with the Larkins. We can’t wait to see what kind of misadventures await the family in the second season and hope to see more of the Garden of England featured.
